Travel Size Sexy Bonbon Jelly Soaps

I am currently developing a vanity kit for my Frugalicious Essentials and first on the list is creating jelly soaps at travel sizes. Since I'll be gone this summer (I'm off to Bacolod first week of March then I'll be living in Siargao the next two weeks after that, then who knows where I'll be the rest of the summer, hehe), I want to make as many travel sized herbal soaps as possible, not just for my own personal use, but for other people as well who love to travel, swim, stay out in the sun and still be able to take care of their skin by using herbal and organic ingredients on their skin.

So this morning, I made my first batch of Sexy Bonbon assorted travel soaps. I'm waiting for them to cure and harden so I can introduce  them on my Frugalicious online store.

I'm hoping to give away some of my soaps once I reach 100 likes on my page. So if you haven't visited my facebook page yet, please head there now and like it. You might just be one of the lucky recipients of my herbal jelly soaps!

Frugalicious Sexy Bonbon Herbal Soaps

All my herbal jelly soaps have just recently hardened and are now ready for sale (yay!). I'm just finding the time to post all of them on my online store, The Frugalicious, where I plan to post not just the herbal soaps I make, but also my other trinkets for sale like frugal but quality apparel, handmade crafts, beaded jewelry and other homemade accessories.

Check out what I have there now:

Making Jelly Soaps Once Again

Yep, I'm back in my workshop making jelly soaps once again! Yay!

I've just been beset by a lot of  "distractions" I call work but right now, after all the confusion, meditation, and consultation, I think I'm really going forward with this.

This week, I've made ten kinds of soaps and I hope to make more in the coming weeks. I don't have any help, it's just me and my tiny hands doing all the grunt work so bear with me as I get everything going. I make each batch with love and passion as if they're all that matters in my world. Teehee.

I'm working on other things soap-related at the moment (like the pricing, packaging, website to house my inventories, description, etc.). I'll also be giving away some jelly soaps real soon.

Til then!

Oatmeal Jelly Soap in Lacoste Pink Scent Giveaway

I've been wanting to share with you my success with my soap making projects for a long while. In fact, it has been almost a year since I last bought a bar of soap in the market. I've been using my own and I've been loving it since. My love for homemade all natural spa products started in 2003.... I was featured in Inquirer and took up almost a whole page of the lifestyle section!

Orange and Cherry Herbal Soap Scrub with Olive Oil, and Oatmeal

After making two kinds of Herbal Soap Scrub with Green Apple, Olive Oil, Oatmeal and Thyme, followed by Herbal Soap Scrub with Orange, Olive Oil, and Oatmeal, I decided to mix two essences on my third try. Cherry is too strong a scent for me so instead of making a pure cherry herbal soap, I also put in some orange essence and it came out perfectly!

Herbal Soap Scrub with Orange, Olive Oil, and Oatmeal

After my Herbal Soap Scrub with Green Apple, Olive Oil, Oatmeal and Thyme, the next batch of herbal soap scrub I did was one with orange essential oil. Apparently, when I matched the scent with the color, I didn't use enough that my soap turned yellow when it finally dried. Well, at least now I know how I can produce the color yellow with glycerin as a soap base. I was in a hurry to make this batch because I only had an hour for lunch break before I resumed with my daily work.

Herbal Soap Scrub with Green Apple, Olive Oil, Oatmeal and Thyme

Last week, I made a basic Green Apple Soap with Oatmeal and Thyme with glycerin as its soap base. It was taking too long to harden so I had to rebatch it so I can also add olive oil for moisturizing effect. I used the same hand-milled process and after 24 hours, it hardened and looked like this:

Green Apple Soap with Oatmeal and Thyme

I just finished making my first batch of hand-milled soap. It needs 24 hours to dry so I can take it out of its mold. If that doesn't happen, I would have to rebatch it. But for now, let me share with you what I did.

Materials/Ingredients:
  • Double Boiler
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of dry grated soap base
  • 1/4 tsp. of color
  • 1/8 tsp. of scent
  • 2 tsps. of oatmeal
  • 1/4 tsp. of thyme
  • plastic mold
  • petroleum jelly

Soap Making Seminar Part II

Finally, I attended this soap making seminar last Saturday and it was fantastic! I learned to do a bunch of things like fabric softener, dish washing liquid, all-purpose powder soap, shampoo, hand soap, bar soap, detergent soap, herbal soap and many other soap stuff including bleach, car wash soap, lotion, foot powder and other spa products. Since I already know most of these things from a previous Golden Treasure soap making seminar I attended in 2005 and the fact that I used to manufacture and sell all natural spa products for many years before, the seminar really helped refresh my memory and now I'm not so afraid of making soap anymore, herbal soaps, that is.

Golden Treasure Soap Making Seminar

I'm in! I'm in! It's official!

The courier from Golden Treasure was here a few minutes ago to get my Php500 deposit for the soap making seminar I will be attending on Jan. 15. It's really happening! I feel excited about it, especially when I learned that it's not just soap I'll be making, but they'll be teaching us how to make various cleaners, spa products, fabric softener, air freshener, shampoo, lotion, and sanitizer too! The list of things to make is definitely longer than what we did in 2005. Oh goodie!

Soap Making Seminar

As I continued reading about the pleasures and benefits of soapmaking, a little voice inside of me started having doubts. "Can I really do this? Why did it seem so easy when I attended a seminar before? It sounds pretty exciting but I don't want my house to burn down by doing this!" To calm myself down, I started rummaging through my old files and looked for my old soap making notes from 2005. And look what I found, crisp and looking new:

Hot and Cold Processes of Soapmaking

I promised myself to update this blog every day, just to make sure that I am moving forward with my projects, no matter how small a step I'm taking. It's way better than having my soapmaking book purchased in 2003 and using it only now. So, moving on...

Soapmaking Lingo

Before I can even start gathering my ingredients (which I plan to do this weekend), I have to learn the lingo of soapmaking. For instance, oil and fragrance are totally different from each other and must not be interchanged lest I want my concoctions to blow up in my face (hence, the need for goggles, which reminds me I still dunno where to get them... lab shops near Bambang Hospital in Manila, perhaps?)

Below are the words I need to learn, so when I follow certain recipes later on, I'd understand what I'm doing.

Soapmaking for Fun and Profit by Maria Given Nerius

That is the book I am using to further learn about soapmaking. I'm still on the introduction part and I realized that this hobby could be costly. There are some materials that I would need to buy, some of which I already did, but there are still a few I would have to search for before I can even begin looking for lye or melting a glycerin soap bar.
